ANNUAL Requirements for
Irving RACES/ARES Membership Appointment

Being a member in this organization requires a firm commitment. This means that this organization’s requirements and activations are second only to family emergencies or job requirements, and that you are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The current requirements to maintain your membership are:
Training
1) Attend a SKYWARN school initially, then at least every two years.
2) Complete the following FEMA Courses within three (3) months of acceptance as a RACES member.
IS- 100c, Introduction to Incident Command System
IS- 200c, ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
IS- 700b, National Incident Management System (NIMS)
Participation – yearly requirement
1) To originate and pass two messages on the NTS (ARRL National Traffic System) (One to the Radio Officer listed below, and one to anybody else).
2) Check into twelve Dallas County RACES Training Nets, of which six of those nets must be Irving RACES/ARES Training Nets.
3) Participate in at least twenty-five percent of unscheduled Irving RACES/ARES Nets 4) Participate in at least one net controlled public service event lasting at least 1.5 hours
Equipment
1) Have at least a 2 meter radio with a recommended effective radiated power (ERP) output of 20 watts.
2) Issued a Kestrel (or equivalent) weather instrument.
3) Issued a safety vest.
The City of Irving screens and approves all applications to RACES. Rejection by the city is for whatever reason is final.
ALL city identification cards, and issued equipment, are the property of the CITY OF IRVING and MUST BE RETURNED upon termination of membership.
