About the Irving Amateur Radio Club
The IARC was organized in 1955 by a local group of radio operators committed to community involvement and public service. From its earliest days, the club provided emergency communications support for federal, state, and municipal agencies, including storm communications and disaster relief.
In its early decades, the club’s activities included monthly meetings, license classes, and ARRL Field Day operations. One memorable milestone was the establishment of a Civil Defense communications center at the Irving Fire Station in the late 1960s. (Photo: early members operating HF from the station in 1967.)
Today, IARC meets regularly and maintains a modern radio facility on Irving Road near Story Road. The club operates multiple repeaters — including 2 m, 1.25 m, and two 440 MHz systems — all supported by EchoLink, which connects local and international operators. In fact, recent contacts have been made with stations as far away as the United Kingdom.
The IARC continues to fulfill its mission of community service and advancing amateur radio, proudly supporting local charities and serving as an ARRL-affiliated club.
